FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP SUPERVISORS

Franklin Township supervisors took the following action on Tuesday:

• Sending a letter of support for the Lehigh Canal Recreation Commission to submit a grant application for the Weissport Canal Overflow Project to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, retroactive to April 9.

• Approved the contract with Constellation New Energy Inc. for the township’s electric supplier at the rate of $0.05670/kWh beginning June 10 and continuing through June 15, 2024.

• Anyone interested in applying for a part-time sanitation crew position may contact the township’s administration office during normal business hours.

• Approved the Franklin Township Lions Club request to hold its annual fishing contest on May 8 at the Phifer’s Ice Dam, and in conjunction with the Pohopoco Rod and Gun Club limit the fishing in that dam to any youth 15 years of age or younger from midnight May 7 until midnight June 15.

• The stocked pond located at the Phifer’s Ice Dam Park will be closed to anyone older than 15 years old beginning at midnight May 7, and will remain closed until midnight June 15.

• An electronic recycling event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 15 at the parking lot where the recycling center was located. The event is for township residents only.

• Reinvested the matured PLGIT CD from First Internet Bank of Indiana, Indiana, in the amount of $249,499. The maturity date is Friday.

• Approved the extended emergency authorization request from Jim Hunt from Berkheimer Tax Innovations to extend the Local Earned Income Tax filing from April 15 to May 17, retroactive to April 12.

• Approved the request from Palmerton Borough to have Franklin Township’s fire police assist with traffic control at the Palmerton Memorial Day Parade on May 31, and for the Raising the House 5K Race on June 5.

• Proclaimed April as Pennsylvania 811 Safe Digging Month.
