An Albrightsville man is charged with breaking into a home in Penn Forest Township.
Derrick L. Beckham, 18, of East Point Road, is facing charges of overnight accommodations – no person present, criminal trespass, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking or disposition.
State police at Fern Ridge said the arrest came after they responded at 9:58 a.m. July 23 to a burglary report on Patten Circle in the township.
Police said a man was checking on the residence for the property owner, and saw someone in the home.
After he called police, he saw two males flee the home through the front door. He told police he attempted to follow the two males but lost sight of them.
On a walk-through of the home, police found damaged door/trim which was the apparent source of entry by the intruders, and also observed marijuana and drug paraphernalia throughout the home.
Police said using prior knowledge from an incident at the same property, one of the men was identified as Beckham. Police said they went to his home to confront him, where Beckham admitted to fleeing the home.
Police said during an interview with Beckham, he admitted entering and using the house several times, including sleeping there, hosting multiple parties and drinking the homeowner’s beer.
