Tamaqua’s softball team gained its first win of the season by defeating Palmerton on Monday.

An RBI single by Riley Zeigenfuss in the bottom of the fifth inning snapped a tie game and lifted Tamaqua to a 3-2 non-league victory over Palmerton.

The clutch hit made a winner of Bryn Clifford, who scattered five hits while striking out 12 and walking none.

Ella McLaughlin finished 2-for-2 for the Blue Raiders (1-3), delivering an RBI double in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the third. Alexsya Thomas chipped in with a hit and a run scored.

For the Blue Bombers (3-1), who were dealt their first loss of the season, Alyssa Silliman collected a pair of hits while Yessi Olewine added a hit and a run scored. Palmerton hurler Carly Gaffney struck out six in her six innings of work.
