Crews respond to W. Penn chimney fire

Firefighters responded to a chimney fire Thursday in West Penn Township that thankfully was quickly contained.

West Penn Township Fire Chief Jeff Bradford said firefighters responded at 11:08 a.m.

to 684 Arrow Lane. Flames were visible from the chimney upon arrival, he said.

The homeowners, whose names were not provided, called 911 after seeing “an abundant amount of smoke in the house.”

The fire was extinguished in less than 20 minutes and limited to the chimney. The homeowners were able to return. He does not know if they had insurance.

Bradford said fire companies from West Penn, Tamaqua, Mahoning Valley, Walker Township and New Ringgold responded. Fire police from the borough were also there.
