Local roundup: Results from March 29

Palmerton posted victories in baseball, softball and tennis action on Monday.

Elsewhere, the Northwestern and Marian baseball and softball teams also were victorious, as were the Lehighton and Jim Thorpe tennis programs.

SOFTBALL

Bangor-Northwestern

Northwestern posted a 5-2 Colonial League victory over Bangor.

Morgan Farthing led the Tigers with two doubles, a single and two runs scored, while Sage Toman followed with two singles and a run scored. Olivia Stofflet added a single and two RBIs.

Brynn Balliet pitched six strong innings, only allowing two runs and striking out seven to earn the victory. She also had a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Lexi Bussenger, Siera Klingle and Nikki Smith all finished with two hits for the Slaters.

Catasauqua-Palmerton

Carly Gaffney fired a two-hitter to power Palmerton to an 8-1 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Gaffney recorded 11 strikeouts in her complete-game win.

Megan Green provided the spark at the plate with three singles and three runs scored.

Executive Ed.-Marian

Morgan Kelly’s dominant performance in the circle powered Marian to a 6-0 non-leaque win over Executive Education Charter School.

The freshman struck out 19 and surrendered just two hits to help the Fillies (1-0) win their season opener.

Offensively for the Fillies, Alise Heisey had two triples; Athena Matenkoski had a double and knocked in two runs; Anna Grabosky added two hits; and Eden Arnold collected a triple.

BASEBALL

Catasauqua-Palmerton

Palmerton opened the regular season with a 12-6 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

Cole Serfass paced the Bombers’ attack with two singles, two walks and four runs scored. Ethan Recker chipped in two singles, two runs scored and an RBI; Kaleb Eitner added a double, a run scored and four RBIs, and Randan Solt finished with two RBIs and three walks.

Bangor-Northwestern

Northwestern recorded an 8-4 Colonial League victory over Bangor.

Ben Boyer sparked the Tigers with a single, a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Carter Welch added two singles and an RBI, and Justin Holmes belted a solo home run and scored twice as Northwestern built an 8-0 lead before surrendering four runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Leadoff hitter Ryan Hammond and clean-up batter Brett Misera both had hits for the Bulldogs.

Marian only needed four innings to secure a 17-2 nonleague victory over Executive Education Charter School.

Luke Walser had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate for the Colts, belting two doubles, a triple, a single, scoring four runs and knocking in one; Julian Rickert went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a single, three runs scored and two RBIs; Matt Martin had a home run and five RBIs; and Chase Petrilyak added a home run and two RBIs.

Williams Valley-Jim Thorpe

A three-run fourth inning sparked Williams Valley to a 5-2 win over Jim Thorpe.

Logan Williard led the Vikings with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, while Mason Evans finished with a double and an RBI.

Ian Hubbard led the Olympians (1-1) with a triple and an RBI, while Jared Marykwas singled and walked twice.

Aaron Miller, Daniel Hoppes and Luke Blauch swept singles’ play for the Indians, who improved to 1-1 on the season.

Connor Rodgers, Daniel Teets and Brendan McDermott helped the Olympians move to 5-1 on the season by scoring singles’ play victories.
