Two area drivers were involved in a crash along the northeast extension of the turnpike.
State police at Pocono said the crash occurred on March 18 at 2:03 p.m. in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County.
Troopers said Holly Marie E. Lawrence, 27, of Jim Thorpe, was traveling northbound in the right lane while Sarah E. Berube, 20, of Lake Harmony, was behind her in the right lane. Robert T. Clothier, 29, of Bucks County, was in the left lane overtaking Lawrence. Clothier lost control of his 2020 Chevrolet Equinox and struck a guide rail on the east shoulder with the front bumper.
Lawrence tried to avoid striking the Equinox and merged into the left lane and struck the rear bumper with the front of her 2012 Mazda CX9. The Mazda struck the center concrete barrier with its front left bumper. Berube merged into the left lane to avoid striking the two other vehicles and struck the rear bumper of the Mazda with the front bumper of her 2013 Jeep Patriot.
Lawrence and her passenger, Bethann M. Barrientos, 34, of Jim Thorpe, were taken to the St. Luke’s Lehighton campus by Cetronia Ambulance. Berube was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital- Cedar Crest, also by a Cetronia ambulance. Clothier was not injured.
