Fire companies from Carbon and Schuylkill counties responded to an out of control controlled burn Sunday afternoon along Church Hill Road in East Penn Township.

The incident was reported when several large piles of trees which were set afire began to spread due to the high winds.

The piles were located in a cut cornfield.

The flames quickly spread. A large front end loader was used to dig into the piles and spread the burning debris for firefighters to extinguish.
