Damage minimal in Palmerton fire

Minor damage was sustained after a structure fire broke out this morning at a former automobile dealership in Palmerton.

The Aquashicola Volunteer Fire Department responded to U-Haul Neighborhood Dealers, which previously served as the former Bennett Dealership, located at 620 Little Gap Road, at around 7:29 a.m.Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke, according to fire Chief Bill George."We had trouble gaining access because they were all steel doors," George said. "We found debris, old records, papers, in the back hall storage area that were burning."George said firefighters were able to get the situation under control within about 15 minutes. He said the building sustained some minimal smoke damage.The cause of the fire is unknown, George said, and the matter remains under investigation.Also assisting at the scene were the Palmerton Fire Department, Towamensing Township Fire Department, Walnutport Fire Department, Palmerton Community Ambulance, and Palmerton Fire Police.
