Candidates must file by Tuesday

Tuesday is the last day in which people seeking elective offices in Carbon County can file petitions to get their names on the ballots in time for the May 18 primary election.

Municipal candidates are required to obtain 10 signatures from registered electors of their party in order to file the paperwork. Municipal positions open for election this year include mayors, borough council members, tax collectors, constables, judges of elections, inspectors of elections and school board members.

For county positions, candidates need 100 signatures of party members. County offices up for grabs this year include clerk of courts, register of wills and clerk of the orphans’ court and treasurer.

County voters will determine nominations within the two major parties - Democratic and Republican - in the May 18 primary election.

County residents are reminded the Carbon County Bureau of Elections’ office has been temporarily relocated due to construction work taking place on Susquehanna Street in Jim Thorpe. The temporary office is located at 410 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe, which is the site of the former Jim Thorpe Area School District Administration Building.
