The Gewehr-Shubeck-Martin-Nesterak Post 170, American Legion, Coaldale, opened quietly over the weekend that marked the end of February, as the liquor license arrived from the state. It was the last hurdle the Legion had to jump as the building was physically ready to welcome its members.

Thomas Sopko, Coaldale’s Mr. Legion, displayed the new complex that rose from the ashes of the old post home that was destroyed by an arson fire on Christmas 1977.

It had taken a little over a year and to date $235,000 to make that happen. Sopko was justifiably proud of what the Legion has accomplished.
