West Penn expects recycling program in coming weeks
The West Penn Township Board of Supervisors met on Monday night and gave an update on the township’s upcoming recycling program.
“The new recycling bin was ordered. We’re waiting to hear from the company,” said Tony Prudenti, board chairman.
“It looks like we’re probably a month to six weeks out, as it was ordered two weeks ago. … As soon as the weather breaks, we need to clear an area and put up a fence, put down some paving or stone … and we talked about maybe some type of fundraiser where permits would be sold for West Penn Township residents only, so they can put them on their cars.”
The recycling site will be at the West Penn Fire Company and is for West Penn residents only.
“The reason we’re doing it is because we had a plethora of township residents come forward about it and we would like to keep the program going.”
Atlas Park project
The board approved a resolution for West Penn Township to apply for a DCNR grant for the Atlas Park at West Penn Township project.
A representative from Arro Consulting, who joined the meeting via teleconference, said the application is currently being worked on.
“We do have the draft to lay out to provide you - we’ll probably send that out tomorrow. After you have a chance to look at that, we’d like to get together again. … and discuss the layout and any changes you want to make.”
The Atlas Park project, which is located in the vicinity of the former Atlas Park, is composed of just over 26 acres, which was donated by resident Dennis D’Angelo at Bella Terra Farms LLC. The board accepted an agreement with D’Angelo in July 2020.
The township is also seeking volunteers for the park commission at the Atlas Park.
