May 29, 2010 — Tamaqua’s Allison Updike captures a gold medal in the javelin at the PIAA Track and Field Championships. Updike, who wins with a throw of 161-2, is one of eight area athletes to earn medals on the second day of states. Fellow Blue Raider Christine Streisel also medals in the javelin with a fourth-place finish, while teammate Amber Carroll takes seventh in the 3200. Lehighton’s Cory Kresge (long jump) and Vanessa Rimbey (100 hurdles) both gain third-place finishes, while Northwestern’s Joe Hall earns a pair of medals (fourth in the javelin and eighth in the high jump). Northern Lehigh’s Zach Fleming places sixth in the 1600 with Jim Thorpe’s JaAshia Page taking seventh in the triple jump.
