Jury: Man not guilty in assault case

A Schuylkill County jury found a Tamaqua man not guilty last week of simple assault and disorderly conduct.

Thomas Williams III, 40, faced three charges of simple assault and one of disorderly conduct-engaged in fighting for a Dec. 15, 2019, incident. Tamaqua police responded to a fight outside the Pine Street Pub. They saw Williams and another man “nose to nose and yelling at each other.” The man had punched Williams earlier because he “went after his cousins,” police said.

Police interviewed those on scene, several who were injured in the incident. Five women said Williams was yelling at them inside the bar. They went outside but Williams soon followed. Four of the women said Williams started “swinging.” Three of the women sustained injuries, court documents show.

Williams said he had witnesses and would bring them to court. He also claimed to have injuries on his head, face and a cut on his wrist, court documents show.
