Dear Editor,
The Republicans who control the Pennsylvania Legislature seem bent on establishing dictatorial powers. First they gerrymander the legislative districts to guarantee they will stay in office. Now they propose to limit the governor’s powers to deal with emergencies. Not content with controlling the executive branch, they are pushing an amendment to the state’s constitution to elect the state Supreme Court by districts, which they will also have the power to gerrymander.
Our Founding Fathers understood the need for separation of powers with its attendant checks and balances. We learned about it in high school. Either the Republican state legislators were out sick that week or they really don’t care about our democracy. They must be stopped before they completely wreck our state.
Sincerely,
Deborah Smith
