HOMICIDE TRIAL: Witnesses testify about fire, forensic evidence in homicide trial

According to First Assistant District Attorney Steve Luksa's opening statement in Anthony Darrell Heath's homicide trial, Heath went to Walmart, then back to his apartment, where he bound Angela Steigerwalt's body with wire, put her in the tote, then got the tote into the back seat of her car.

The trial began this morning for Heath, 26, is charged in the death of 35-year-old Steigerwalt, whose body he brought from Allentown to a secluded area of Jim Thorpe and tried to burn.Prosecutors called Robert Romanchik, who was driving on Flagstaff Mountain road with his wife, and saw smoke and called 911.

Two Jim Thorpe firefighters testified about the odd smell of the brush fire, and that it burned hotter than a typical brush fire.

The fourth witness was trooper John Corrigan of Hazleton barracks' forensic services unit, who testified about how he documents and collects items at scenes. In this case items included a long-handled lighter, cap from a bottle of lighter fluid, and the lid and handles from a plastic tote.

The jury also saw graphic photographs of Steigerwalt's head and shoulders and a wire around her neck.
