Jury to begin deliberating in Heath trial

Closing arguments have concluded in the Anthony Heath trial in Lehigh County Court. The jury will begin deliberations this afternoon.

Heath is accused of killing Angela Steigerwalt, 35, of Tamaqua.

Heath, representing himself, told the jury how difficult this was for him and about how he panicked and tried to cover up the killing out of respect for Steigerwalt.

"I lied about a lot of things. I'm not comfortable stating sexual things I did behind closed doors," Heath said.

"I don't like the word killing. It's a very hard word."

Stating her death was an accident, Heath said, "I kept my promise not to reveal certain things we did."

First Assistant District Attorney Steven Luksa's closing included recapping the evidence and testimony.

He repeated Heath's statements that he "loved and respected" Steigerwalt as he showed jurors a photo of her charred corpse.

Luksa also put a photo of Steigerwalt on the overhead projector, telling jurors that for Heath, it was all about himself.
