Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 30
The Jim Thorpe girls won their eighth straight game, while Pleasant Valley posted wins in three different sports - boys and girls basketball, and wrestling - on Saturday.
Palmerton also gained multiple victories, as its boys and girls both defeated Southern Lehigh.
Other winners included Lehighton and Panther Valley in boys basketball.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Pine Grove-Lehighton
Lehighton’s defense paved the way for a 37-28 Schuylkill League victory over Pine Grove.
The Indians (5-4; 5-2), who gave up just 17 points after the first quarter, posted their fewest points allowed in four years. The last time they held an opponent under 30 points was Jan. 12, 2017 in a 69-25 win over Minersville.
Richard Yturrino paced Lehighton with a game-high 13 points, while Jack Lorenz chipped in with eight.
The Cardinals (7-5; 4-3) received a team-high 12 points from Kolby Geesey.
Pine Grove took the JV game, 48-40.

Palmerton evened its record at 4-4 by pulling away from Southern Lehigh for a 57-42 Colonial League victory.
Brayden Hosier scored all seven of his points in the second quarter as the Blue Bombers rebounded from an early deficit to gain a seven-point halftime lead.
Kody Kratzer finished with a game-high 17 points for Palmerton (4-4; 4-2), while Owen Buck contributed 11.
The Spartans (3-2; 3-2) received a team-high 16 points from Daryl Coleman.

N. Schuylkill-Panther Vy.
Stephen Hood hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift Panther Valley to a high-scoring 82-79 Schuylkill League victory over North Schuylkill.
Hood finished with a game-high 20 points, including 10 during the fourth quarter, and also pulled down 10 rebounds. Chase Weaver added 13 of his 18 points in the final eight minutes as the Panthers tallied 29 in that last period.
PV, which improved to 4-7 overall and 2-6 in the league, also received 17 points from Michael Pascoe.
Bryce Krapf chipped in with eight points and eight assists, while Weaver added seven boards.
North Schuylkill (2-7; 0-6) received a team-high 19 points from Joey Flail.
The Spartans won the JV game, 55-33, despite 11 points from the Panthers’ Cody Orsulak.

Pleasant Valley won its first game of the season by cruising past East Stroudsburg North, 65-50, in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matchup.
Leland Hargrow scored eight of his 10 points in the first half as the Bears (1-5; 1-5) opened up a 13-point halftime lead.
The winners received a team-high 19 points from Joel Contreras, while Donald Francois chipped in with nine.
Kyle John of ES North led all scorers with 20 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua
Skylar Searfoss poured in a game-high 30 points to lead Jim Thorpe to its eight straight victory - a 74-41 Schuylkill League decision over Tamaqua.
Searfoss scored 12 of her points during the first quarter as the Olympians (10-2; 8-0) raced to a 15-point lead.
The winners, who clinched a district playoff berth, also received 16 points from Olivia Smelas and 10 from Leila Hurley.
For the Blue Raiders (6-5; 5-3), Serena Jones tallied a team-high 20 points.
Thorpe also won the JV game, 33-24.

Raegan Nemeth and Beth Morgan contributed to the win with nine points apiece.
For the Spartans (4-3), Steph Schmitt tallied a team-high nine points.

The Spartans (8-2; 7-1), who received 19 points from both Mya Wetzel and Kamryn Mengel, bolted to a 35-7 advantage after the first quarter.
PV’s Maddison Maynard finished with a game-high 21 points, including six three-pointers. Erika Dubosky also chipped in with 12 points.
The loss dropped the Panthers to 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the league.

Pottsville recorded a Schuylkill League sweep over Tamaqua.
The Tide defeated the Blue Raiders, 88-65, in the boys meet, while the hosts posted a 100.5-84.5 victory in the girls competition.
Ethan Amershek and Joey Lescavage had multiple individual wins for the Blue Raiders. Amershek won the 50 and 100 freestyle, while Lescavage touched the wall first in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle.
The Raiders’ Lexi Buchala added a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly.
