The Schuylkill County Courthouse and all county offices are closed Monday because of the weather but will reopen 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Schuylkill County Emergency Management Coordinator John Matz said County Administrator Gary Bender and President Judge William E. Baldwin made the decision.
“It’s safer that everyone is at home,” Matz said.
The Schuylkill County Prison and communications center will continue operations, Matz said.
“It’s been relatively quiet on the radio,” he said, referring to scanner traffic about roads.
However, as the snowfall continues, it isn’t unexpected that road and driving conditions will deteriorate.
Current snowfall totals for Schuylkill County were not available on the National Weather Service State College website. However, an expected snowfall graphic shows a potential for 11 inches county wide.
An estimated snowfall total list for different areas in the county shows a low, expected and high end snow amounts. For example, 9 inches is the low end, 12 expected and 21 inches the high end snowfall total in Tamaqua and 10, 13, and 21 inches respectively in Coaldale.
