A look back: Jan. 29, 1987

New hope was born last night when officials of four boroughs met and officially accepted the name “Panther Valley Council of Governments.”

The committee involves Coaldale, Lansford, Nesquehoning and Summit Hill.

Promoted by the Panther Valley Chamber of Commerce, the COG idea began 15 months ago following a meeting with the PA Department of Community Affairs and the Carbon County Planning Commission.

Appointed representatives by their respective councils are Stanley Zwolenik, Lansford; Trevor Lawrence, Summit Hill; and Frank Jacobs, Nesquehoning. Coaldale has yet to name a representative.
