CJERP meeting

The Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk Comprehensive is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building in Brodheadsville.

Church news

• Effort UMC holds worship services in person at 8:30, 10 and 11:15 a.m. Attendees are asked to remember to register if attending in person.

This can be done through the church website or by calling the church office on the Thursday or Friday prior to Sunday’s service.

The church leadership reminds its membership and friends that there will be soup pots in the narthex for donations of canned goods such as fruit, pasta, vegetables, sauces, etc. and nonperishables in recognition of Super Bowl Sunday which will then be given to the church-hosted food pantry, the SFRC.

Donations are due Sunday.

• Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, invites members and visitors to register for services from now through the end of February. Do that by clicking on the link: https://reopen.church/r/KgEqtTSFS.

• Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, has Sunday worship services on the first and third Sunday of the month, with Holy Communion, at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. There is space for 25-30 people each service.

CDC guidelines with safe distancing and wearing masks will be followed.

Worshippers are asked to call the church office at 610-681-5191 to reserve a place.

• St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is beginning a Souper Bowl on Feb. 7, when the church kicks off its monthlong celebration of thinking of others.

That Souper Bowl is collecting cans of soup, cans of sauce - no glass, please - and boxes of pasta.

Items collected during the month will then be distributed to both West End Pantry and PVEN.

Polk policy

Polk Township residents are eligible to participate in using the solid waste and recycling facilities at a cost of $100 per a year, or they can use a private waste hauler. Current solid waste permits renewal begins March 1 and continues through May 15.

Residents are also responsible to acquire and obtain permits for projects such as pools, roofs, fences, decks, additions, sheds, blacktopping driveways and others. Call the township office at 610-681-5376 to inquire if a project to be initiated needs a permit before starting.

Ross Supervisors

The monthly meeting of Ross Township Supervisors is held at 7 p.m. the first Monday of the month at the township municipal building at 250 Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.

While the meeting is open to the public, in-person attendance will be limited in accordance with state COVID-19 guidelines and orders, and admission will therefore be on a first-come basis.

Participation will also be available by audio conference by calling 978-990-5000, access code #873283. Anyone with comments is asked to provide input before the meeting by phone or email. These must be received by the township office no later than noon on Jan. 29 at either 570-992-4990 or rosstwp@ptd.net.

Chestnuthill board

The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors’ meeting is on the calendar for 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Bible study

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church will begin a Bible study on Feb. 3 focused on biblical teaching on the last days. Call Olga at 570-992-6799 to make reservation, to check if there are still openings available.

Blood drives

Miller-Keystone Blood Center will be at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville on Pilgrim Way Feb. 3, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for whole blood collecting, and from 7:30 a.m. to noon for automated collections.

The Red Cross drive at the Kunkletown Firehouse for Thursday is filled.

However, there were some openings for the drive being held at the Lighthouse Full Gospel Church of God on Hammond Lane in Stroudsburg.

On Feb. 22, St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is hosting a Miller-Keystone blood drive at the church from 1 to 6 p.m. in the social hall.

Law updates

Eldred Township secretary E. Ann Velopolcek shares that there have been some updates to the PA Move Over Law. Many people are not even aware of this law so she has posted the link to the actual text: https://bit.ly/2YfOzJ8.

There are serious fines and penalties so folks should take a few minutes to review the rules.
