Mary Coover entered a porcelain owl sitting on two books in the Nature in Art III show held at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center with a closing reception on Aug. 2. She said "Oius" sits with her at the table.
Coover also entered a two-headed eagle, an "Ode to an Eagle," with the heads facing in opposite directions.Anita Collins, the show organizer and one of the jurors, said there were 37 entries. Since it is difficult to find two weeks when the Great Hall of the Osprey House is free, next year's show will be held in the fall when LGNC has fewer events scheduled. Joan Biehl was the second juror."We have a nice mix of pastels, water colors and oils, porcelains and etchings," Collins said. Also, all seasons of the year were represented. There were no subdivided categories, just Nature.Lee Sivak of Slatington said she had her grandson, Issac, visiting and took his picture on some rocks at the pond in front of the tannery during his visit. It will go to him when he has a home of his own. She also hid a frog in the picture which someone excitedly said she found. Another grandson and a granddaughter will get paintings with them in it when they are older."I have such a fun time seeing all the interpretations," said Collins."Summer Splendor" took first for Janet Dean. It is a pastel painting.Visitors came all through the period that the show was open from July 24 just to see the artwork.
