Guilty plea in domestic incident

A Lehighton man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Wednesday to one count of harassment, as a summary offense, which stemmed from a domestic incident.

Anthony Bodine, 50, pleaded before Judge Steven R. Serfass. However, the plea almost didn't come off when Bodine disputed the police report.Bodine was arrested for an incident on Sept. 4, 2013, in Mahoning Township. A female notified police she had been assaulted by Bodine. The incident was termed a domestic dispute by township police. The police report stated a witness observed Bodine striking the victim with a flip-flop shoe. Bodine denied he ever struck the woman. Serfass then halted the proceeding stating if Bodine says he didn't strike the victim, he would not accept the plea and would continue with a bench trial in the matter. Bodine was scheduled for a bench trial before Serfass but changed his mind and accepted a plea agreement with the district attorney's office. After conferring with his legal counsel and the district attorney's office, Bodine then admitted he "contacted her physically."Serfass then accepted the plea and imposed of fine of $300. It was further noted the victim had approved the plea agreement which included a charge of simple assault being dropped. Bodine must also pay court costs of about $1,000.
