Inmates and staff at the Schuylkill County Prison continue to test positive for COVID-19.

Doreen Kutzler, interim human resources director, provided an update Tuesday. Since Dec. 22, there are currently four staff who are positive for COVID-19. Four have recovered. Seven inmates have the virus and 17 have recovered.

“The county of Schuylkill’s prison is carefully monitoring the spread of the COVID-19 virus. As with any type of emergency situation, we carefully assess how best ensure the safety of staff, the inmates and the public,” Kutzler said.

Additional information was not provided.

The first case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in November. The inmate has since recovered, Warden David Wapinsky said previously.
