Man shot, killed after standoff on Monroe County overpass

Pennsylvania State Police released a report on an officer-involved shooting Wednesday in Hamilton Township that resulted in the death of a man.

Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police at Stroudsburg responded at 1:38 p.m. Wednesday to the Route 33 southbound overpass to Interstate 80 for a report of a distraught and suicidal man standing on the bridge.

Christian Joseph Hall, 19, was standing near the bridge with a gun.

Troopers began to speak with Hall and ordered him to place his gun on the ground. Hall complied.

As troopers continued to negotiate with Hall, he became uncooperative and retrieved the gun and began walking toward the troopers.

Hall pointed the gun in the troopers’ direction. As a result, troopers fired, striking Hall.

Troopers provided medical assistance until the EMS unit arrived.

Hall was transported to Lehigh Valley-Pocono in East Stroudsburg, where he was pronounced dead.

The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police will continue to investigate this incident.
