Oftentimes those who decorate for the holidays don’t just do so for themselves.

Though she enjoys Christmas about as much as anyone, Kat Long said it isn’t only for herself that she decorates.

Long, who along with her husband, Don, lives at 576 Mauch Chunk Road in Palmerton with her mother, said the family wanted to keep the tradition going.

“

I didn’t overdo it this year; I just wasn’t in the mood,” Long said. “It’s just like a traditional thing,”

Long said she and Don began to decorate the home after Thanksgiving.

“My mom lives here, and we live here with her,” she said. “She likes to see the decorations.”

That, Long said, is exactly why she and Don knew the choice to decorate was easy.

“She’s always excited,” Long said. “She enjoys the lights; it’s her favorite time of the year.”
