Christmas is winding down and it’s time to discard your live tree.
Put it to good use by taking it to the Carbon County Environmental Education Center.
The center, located at 151 E. White Bear Drive in Summit Hill, is accepting trees for wildlife cover, both for wild animals and caged birds. The rest gets chipped into useable mulch for the center’s trails and other areas.
In the spring, after the final chipping, the center offers free mulch to the public.
To bring the tree to the center, remove ornaments, lights, tinsel and garland.
Don’t put it in a bag.
Place trees at the drop-off area to the rear of the building, and not in the dirt parking area by the dumpster.
The center also welcomes trees collected by surrounding boroughs’ workforces.
Trees brought to the Carbon County Environmental Education Center are used for wildlife cover and to maintain trails at the center. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
