The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Friday that there were 9,320 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 538,655.
There are 6,209 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, double the peak in the spring. Of that number, 1,246 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.
The trend in the 14-day moving average of number of hospitalized patients per day has increased by nearly 5,300 since the end of September.
Statewide percent positivity for the week of Dec. 4 – Dec. 10 stood at 16.2%.
Local numbers
Carbon County reported 2,123 cases, an increase of 21 since Thursday. Deaths remain at 84.
Lehigh County reported 16,758, an increase of 233. Five more deaths were reported since Thursday, for a total of 440.
Luzerne County has 14,716 cases, an uptick of 299 since Thursday. The county reported one death. The count is now at 396.
Monroe reported 5,068, an increase of 130. Deaths are now at 183, as two more were reported Friday.
Northampton County reported 13, 642 cases, 183 more than Thursday. There are 375 deaths after three more were reported Friday.
Schuylkill reported 6,190, 107 more than Thursday. One more death was reported for a running total of 218.
