Frackville State Police - crashes
State police at Frackville reported investigating three crashes recently.
• A crash was reported at 4:31 a.m. on Dec. 2 in Ryan Township.
Jerry Lopez, 39, of Hazleton, was driving a 2014 Freightliner truck southbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck went onto the berm and struck guide rail, then came to rest blocking both southbound lanes.
Troopers said a secondary crash occurred involving two sedans directly behind the truck crash.
Lopez was not injured. His vehicle had to be towed. He was cited for the crash.
• A hit-and-run was reported at 3 p.m. on Dec. 9 along Lincoln Drive in Rush Township.
Troopers said a vehicle was traveling along Lincoln Drive, at the intersection with Mariner Street, when it entered into a grassy area located in front of 49 Lincoln Drive. The vehicle hit a brick retaining wall that was attached to a residence at that location. The driver then fled the scene.
Evidence at the scene indicates the hit-and-run vehicle received damages to the driver side front area.
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 9 along the Burma Road in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County.
Troopers said Joshua E. Hernandez, 25, of Pottsville, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer southbound when he claimed he lost control due to icy road conditions. The vehicle went onto the right berm area and struck a utility pole.
Hernandez and his passenger, Justin L. Moser, 21, of Pottsville, were not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the West End Fire Company of Mahanoy City.
• Sean M. Smyth, 48, of Lansford, was cited for driving a vehicle without a valid inspection after a two-vehicle crash at 4:29 p.m. Dec. 10 on the Morea Road in Mahanoy Township.
The crash occurred at the intersection with Interstate 81’s Exit 131 southbound on-ramp.
Police said Smyth was driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee west on the Morea Road when he turned in front of a 2015 Ford F350 driven by Jared E. Smith, 28, of Hamburg. Police said the F350 hit the passenger’s side front and rear doors of Smyth’s vehicle.
Smyth was transported to the St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale, by the Mahanoy City EMS.
The Cherokee was towed from the scene while the F350 was able to be driven from the scene.
