A Carbon County woman who, along with two men, was arrested in a van loaded with firearms at the Holland Tunnel in New Jersey, was in the county court Monday pleading to a drug charge.
Kimberly Anne Arendt, 30, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia with a charge of possession of a controlled substance dropped. Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the plea.She was arrested on the charge on May 20, 2016, at Beltzville State Park near Pohopoco Drive by park rangers.Arendt, along with John Cramsey, 50; and Dean Smith, 53, both of Zionsville, were arrested June 21, 2016, just outside the Holland Tunnel by New Jersey authorities. They had loaded weapons, knives and ballistic vests in the van. The trio were headed to rescue a teen girl being held by a drug dealer in Brooklyn, according to police.The trio faces multiple weapons charges after their vehicle, a van from Cramsey's "Higher Ground Tactical" gun shop was stopped in Jersey City for a cracked windshield.First Assistant District Attorney Michael S. Greek told Serfass that the commonwealth was attempting to settle two cases Arendt has pending in the county. The other is a DUI case in which she entered a guilty plea and is scheduled to be sentenced on March 2. Greek said, "She has enough problems ahead of her so we're trying to clear up her cases in Carbon."Arendt, a recovering addict, told Serfass she spent 102 days in New Jersey prison before making bail. Those charges are still pending.Serfass placed her on probation for a year, ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 50 hours of community service, pay court costs of $1,000 and pay a $50 per month fee for probation.
