Bowmanstown discusses roads

Deteriorating road conditions were a topic of discussion at the Bowmanstown Borough Council meeting last week.

After two residents complained, Councilman Norman Engle said, "Potholes, I've got a lot of them. On every street you can find them."Engle added, "We are working on it and looking at solutions to take care of them, especially Meadowcrest. Every street in town including Hamilton needs to be fixed."Council members explained that it is just a money issue and that they are looking into solutions to such as bonds to fix them. At the very least they want to tar and chip the roads that are in the worst condition until a final solution can happen.Council also began looking at bids for the White Street guard rail replacement.The borough will be moving forward with the help of Palmerton Garage Doors in replacing side door of the borough garage.The door will include a steel door with an insulated shatterproof lookout glass window. The door will also include kickplates for reinforcement and an automatic door opener.Council members also explained that all of the street signs that have yet to be replaced will be taken care of as soon as possible.LibraryCharles Laviolette, president of the Palmerton Library Association, thanked Council for the yearly donation and for including the annual fund drive flier in its recent newsletter.Laviolette presented a summary of donation fund spending.He discussed programs that are offered by the library, including student study sessions.The library has purchased new laptops and a charger station for them.The library website (www.palmertonarealibrary.com) can also be very helpful. It offers many resources including databases accessible from a home computer.Laviolette expressed his thanks again for the municipality's donation. "All of the great things we are doing couldn't be done without the help of the donations like yours," he said.The Bowmanstown Fire Company and the Alliance Club will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt April 15. The egg hunt will be held at the alliance baseball field. More details will be advertised as the event gets closer.The borough will replace the mulch in all of the playgrounds before spring arrives.
