UPDATE: Situation cleared at Penn-Kidder

Penn-Kidder students returned to school after spending three hours at an undisclosed location because of a bomb threat received Friday morning, according to school district officials.

Around 11 a.m. the district became aware of a suspicious threat in a school lavatory and evacuated the campus, according to superintendent Brian Gasper.

Kidder Township police said a person of interest has been identified. As the person is a juvenile, no other information is available at this time.

Jim Thorpe Area School District and local police departments conduct drills to prepare for mass evacuations.

They were fully prepared to handle this situation, police said.

The district said a bomb-threat note was found at the school and authorities were called to investigate.

Students were taken to an undisclosed location.

"Once the PKC building was deemed clear, students were transported back to the PKC," Gasper said.

"We would like to sincerely thank our faculty, staff, students, parents. emergency personnel and community for assisting us in maintaining the safety of our school community," Gasper added.
