Lansford Christmas event set for Sunday

Santa Claus is coming to Lansford on Sunday.

The Lansford Fire Company will parade with Santa around town during the afternoon.

“We’re going to leave the Lansford pool at 3 p.m.,” said fire chief Joseph Greco. “We’ll proceed east on Abbott St. all the way to the end of town. We’ll come back around and head west on Bertsch St. When we get to the 400 block of W. Bertsch, we’re going to cross over to W. Ridge St. We’re going to take down all the way to W. Ridge St. When we’re done there, we’re going to do a lap through the town houses and back to the firehouse.”

The pandemic caused this year’s event to be different from under normal circumstances.

“In light of what has gone on with the virus, it’s the least we could do for the kids,” said Christopher Ondrus, president of Lansford Alive. “It’s great that everyone stepped up. We’re making the best of what we have.”

Lansford Alive and Key Bank are assisting with the event.

“We didn’t want to cancel the Santa visitation outright,” said Greco. We came up with this idea as a way to spread a little Christmas cheer for everyone. At least we can do this socially distant and keeping all of those guidelines together.

“It looks like the weather will be good so we’re looking forward to taking Santa Claus through town. The police are going to lead us with Lehighton Ambulance. We’ll have our trucks and Santa on a trailer with a sleigh and people helping him toss out candy to the kids.”
