Drivers facing DUI after crashes

Two drivers are facing charges of driving under the influence following two crashes in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said a two-vehicle crash was reported at 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 28 along Route 54 in Ryan Township.

Troopers said John J. Jeffries, 61, of Barnesville, was driving a 2011 Toyota Rav4 eastbound when his vehicle crossed the centerline and hit a 2018 Honda Odyssey driven by Joel J. Rivera, 30, of Summit Hill.

Troopers said Rivera pulled to the right shoulder to avoid a collision but could not. After impact Jeffries stopped for a moment, then fled eastbound.

Rivera turned around and pursued Jeffries. Jeffries drove to his residence on Hotel Lane in Barnesville, about a mile east of the crash scene.

Troopers responded and arrested Jeffries for DUI and hit-and-run to an attended vehicle.

No one was injured. Damages were termed minor to both vehicles.

On Nov. 28 at 3:45 a.m. troopers responded to a reported rollover crash along Interstate 81 in Ryan Township. As a result of an investigation the driver of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, Joshua Kimball, 32, of Waymart, Wayne County, was found to be under the influence and was placed under arrest. Charges are pending.
