State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating a burglary and fraud incidents.
The break-in occurred at Getz Self Storage, located at 30 Route 534 in East Side Borough, Carbon County. The owner reported multiple storage units had the locks cut and were broken into. Various items were reported taken with a total value of $2,040, which also includes damages to the locks.
An 80-year-old woman from Albrightsville, Penn Forest Township, Carbon County, reported she entered a trial period with what she believed to be her mortgage company to reduce her monthly payment. She was instructed to pay her monthly mortgage payment via gift cards. After receiving a collection notice from her mortgage company, it was determined that the correspondence that was sent to her was fictitious. She lost $7,210, it was reported.
On Nov. 12 at 5:54 p.m. troopers received a walk-in complaint at the barracks. A 63-year-old man from Saylorsburg, said someone used his debit card information and made several transactions totaling $417.61. The victim was refunded by his bank.
On Nov. 12 at 5:06 p.m. a 56-year-old Effort woman reported someone used her debit card information to make several transactions to her account. The amount taken was $1,330.62.
A 23-year-old woman from Albrightsville, Penn Forest Township, Carbon County, reported someone opened an account with the Citizens Bank using her personal information. The bank contact the victim by mail which prevented any financial loss.
Troopers are continuing to investigate these incidents.
