UGI Gas Company representatives were not able to find the source of a strong gas odor that forced a number of employees out of numerous Carbon County buildings in Jim Thorpe on Thursday morning.

Carbon County Commissioners' Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that seven UGI workers were working with gas meters clearing the buildings, but no gas leaks or causes for the smell had been found.He said they believe it may have been a natural gas truck driving by that was the cause of the problem.The gas smell was reported by employees in the 76 Susquehanna St. building just before 11 a.m. At the time, numerous employees left the building because of the smell and moved to the courthouse annex to get out of the cold. At the same time, areas of the courthouse and courthouse annex reportedly also smelled of natural gas.Carbon County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Mark Nalesnik was called to the scene while crews worked to clear the buildings.Employees returned to work around 11:30 a.m., Nothstein said.
