On June 6, a nursing student taking classes at the Mahoning Valley Nursing Home had her stethoscope stolen from a cabinet inside a classroom.
The stethoscope had a raspberry colored tube, with a rainbow finish bell.The classes completed on June 18. On July 4, the owner of the stethoscope found classmate Stephanie Andreas was selling an identical stethoscope via Facebook for $75 to $100.The victim provided police with messages and pictures of the stethoscope she had obtained while communicating with Andreas.Police contacted Andreas, and she twice denied any knowledge of the stolen stethoscope. Andreas was shown the pictures she sent via Facebook. She then admitted it was stolen and she had it inside her home.Andreas brought out the stethoscope and said her friend had stolen it and she was selling it for her. The friend was interviewed by police and denied the theft. The friend told officers that Andreas had shown her the stethoscope the night it was stolen.Andreas has been charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, and unsworn falsification to authorities, all misdemeanors. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27.
