The Western Pocono Lions Club presented outstanding citizenship awards on Wednesday night to Mary Jane Smith and Carl Kunkle, both of Effort.

Kunkle, the current president of the West End Ambulance Corps, and Smith, a past president of the Lioness Club, were presented plaques during a banquet held at Riedmiller’s Restaurant in Saylorsburg.

Lions President Ray Beers presented the award to Kunkle while Lioness president Carol Smale presented the award to Smith.

Leon Zinkler, professor of sociology at East Stroudsburg University, was the guest speaker.
