The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported Monday that there were 3,402 new cases, in addition to 2,909 new cases reported Sunday, for a two-day total of 6,311 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 234,296.
As of Sunday there were five new deaths and as of midnight there were four new deaths reported for a total of 9,024 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
There are 1,652 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 353 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.
In nursing and personal care homes, there are 27,729 resident cases of COVID-19, and 5,879 cases among employees, for a total of 33,608 at 1,115 distinct facilities in 63 counties. Out of our total deaths, 5,907 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities. A county breakdown can be found here.
Approximately 12,975 of our total cases are among health care workers.
Two-day increases in our region:
• Carbon County is reporting 723 cases, an increase of 16 cases over two days. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 32.
• Lehigh County is reporting 7,657 cases, an increase of 218 cases over two days. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 372.
• Luzerne County reported an increase of 161 cases, bringing the total to 6,206. An additional death has been reported for a total of 215.
• Monroe County has 45 new cases, bringing the total to 2,287. Deaths remain at 135.
• Northampton County has 6,131 cases, an increase of 127 cases. Deaths remain at 319.
• Schuylkill County has 2,506 cases, an increase of 85 cases. Three additional deaths have been reported for a total of 116.
