Lansford reminds residents of snow ordinance

Lansford Borough Council officialsremindresidents of the procedures laid out in the borough's snow ordinance.

The borough's snow plowing ordinance takes effect the morning after a snowfall of at least four inches. It remains in effect from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Residents are required to move all cars to one side of the street during that time, depending on the date.If the plowing takes place on an odd-numbered date - the 1st, 3rd, or 5th - there is no parking on the side of the street with odd-numbered addresses (typically the north and east side). If plowing takes place on an even-numbered date, there is no parking on the side of the street with even-numbered addresses (the south and west sides). The following day, residents are expected to move their cars back to the other side of the street, so that the entire street can be plowed.Council President Martin Ditsky said Wednesdaythat once again snow plowing will be focused on the borough's narrow streets - Kline, Water, Front and Snyder."So we give those narrow streets access to emergency vehicles. Then we would be looking at the intersection of Tunnel and Ridge, where the police are," he said.If more than 12 inches of snow falls, then the borough goes into "snow removal" mode.Ditsky said under those conditions, borough workers will be required to take 12-hour shifts, and the borough may look at hiring a contractor to help remove the snow. The snow ordinance is in place from November-April. Anyone who is parked illegally during snow plowing will be fined $25, plus towing costs.Mayor James Romankow pledged that the borough will not leave any streets unplowed."All of the streets will be plowed. We're not going to let mother nature take its course," he said.
