Weatherly man named president of the PSPA
Gerard E. Grega, PA-C, DFAAPA of Weatherly has been elected President of the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants (PSPA).
He took over as president July 1, succeeding Catherine Gillespie, PA-C of Erie.He just transitioned from his initial year as president-elect, will be PSPA president for the next two years, and then will be immediate past president for the final year competing the four year cycle.Grega is a graduate of the King's College PA Program in 1982 and has been NCCPA certified and employed clinically since then. Prior to that he received a Bachelor of Science in biology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1979.His 30 plus years of professional clinical work experience has been in the areas of surgery, emergency medicine, correctional medicine, and occupational & environmental medicine.He also has earned significant medical administrative experience throughout his career job responsibilities.He has been employed by the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore, MD, since December, 2005 in the Division of Occupational and Medical Medicine working on-site with various client companies throughout eastern Pennsylvania.A Physician Assistant (PA) is a graduate of an accredited PA educational program who is nationally certified, state licensed, and authorized by the state to practice medicine within his/her scope of practice under the general supervision of a licensed physician. PA's are invaluable members of the Physician-PA healthcare team and work in concert with physicians to ensure the highest quality of care for patients.Grega will also serve as Chief Delegate to theAmerican Association of Physician Assistants (AAPA) House of Delegates for the next two years.He is also serving in a dual role as the incoming President of the American Academy of Physician Assistants in Occupational Medicine (AAPA-OM), AAPA's specialty organization in Occ. Med.He serves also as a member of the AAPA Federal Affairs Work Group (FAWG) concentrating on studying and advocating for Federal legislative issues affecting PA's across the US. He is an Associate member of the American College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.He also has served as an elected member of the Weatherly Area School Board of Directors since 1991.Grega is married to the former Catherine (Faust) Grega and resides in Packer Township. They have four children, all college graduates: Gerard, Jr., James, Jonathan, and Julianne. Julianne is also a second generation PA - currently practicing in Surgery.
