Poppy picking

American Legion Post 927 is holding a pick-a-poppy event from 1 to 5 p.m. today at ShopRite in Brodheadsville and also from 1 to 7 p.m. Nov. 7 in honor and recognition of Veterans Day.

Pumpkin carving

Pleasant Valley Intermediate families are reminded that the submission deadline for the PVI PTO virtual pumpkin carving contest is 8 p.m. Friday.

All Saints Mass

This weekend, Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will offer Mass for the Feast of All Saints at 5 p.m. Saturday and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m. - Spanish, and at 7 p.m.

Holy Communion

The congregation of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, continues to meet both in-person and virtually every Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Anyone wishing to attend virtually can log on to https://www.facebook.com/stpeterssaylorsburg/live/ or https://twitch.tv/stpsaylorsburg to join the service.

On Sunday, St. Peter’s United Methodist will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion with sealed elements for the safety of all. Additionally, the congregation will honor its members and friends who have passed into glory this past year in an All Saints Day recognition.

It’s a poignant recognition of the saints among the church family who have gone before.

Fun and fellowship will abound Nov. 7, beginning at 10 a.m.

St. Peter’s UMC will pack the Operation Christmas Child boxes with all the items donated over the course of 2020. A mission of Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child provides local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Folks are invited to join members to pack the boxes and bring smiles to impoverished children’s faces. Call 570-992-7311 and leave a message for a callback.

All Saints Sunday

Effort UMC will celebrate All Saints Sunday with services at 8:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Reservations are recommended.

New Mass schedule

Beginning on Sunday, the weekend Mass schedule at Our Lady Queen of Peace church will be: 8 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m. - Spanish, 7 p.m.; Saturday Confession, 4-4:45 p.m. in the Chapel; 5 p.m. Vigil Mass in Church.

Beginning Nov. 7, Saturday Confessions are at 3-3:45 p.m., Mass will be at 4 p.m.

Daily Mass will be: Monday, 12:10 p.m.; Mass Confession, 6:30-7 p.m. in the Chapel; Tuesday, 8 a.m. Mass; Wednesday, 8 a.m. Mass; Thursday, 8 a.m. Mass; Friday, 8 a.m. Mass; and Eucharistic Adoration after Mass in the Chapel Saturday, 8 a.m.

Communion Sunday

St. John’s Lutheran, Effort, will continue with Communion on the first Sunday of each month until the end of the year 2020. Worship time each Sunday is 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.

St. Matthew’s UCC

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is going inside for this Sunday’s worship service at 9 a.m. The sanctuary is currently limited to 57 people. Since the wiring to allow worshippers to watch from the downstairs classrooms may not be quite complete until December, the service will continue to be transmitted for those listening on their car radio. The service will also be on the church website, https://stmattsucckunkletown.com.

Craft & Gift Fair

West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting a craft and gift fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There will be unique gifts for everyone.

It will be held at Chestnuthill Park on Route 715, Brodheadsville. Mask wearing is requested. COVID-19 guidelines are to be followed.

Blues for Valor

On Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m., at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert there will be a blues benefit featuring live blues by James Supra/Sarah Ayers Band.

The benefit is for the Valor organization which supports and helps re-establish veterans back into the community with health, living and educational opportunities.

In addition there will be a military vehicles display, military vendors; food, beer and wine available for purchase; Kids dress up for trick-or-treat path; walk the makeshift Military Mile; etc.

Military/patriotic vendors sought. Organization tables are available for Legions, VFWs, Military recruiters, Veterans’ Assistance groups.

For families bringing nonperishable food, children get in free. Help stuff the VALOR van with nonperishable food donations.
