October 28, 1980 - The Panther Valley volleyball team captures its third straight Schuylkill League championship by sweeping Tamaqua in the title match. The Panthers, the second half champs coached by Anita Herman, win by scores of 15-6 and 15-10. Patti Matika runs off seven straight service points in the first game as PV takes a sizable lead and then later has a string of six straight service points to close out the opening contest. The winners trail in the second game but rally to earn the title. Nancy O’Donnell serves three straight points, while Mary Paluck collects three aces to finish off the match.
