Drugs, cash found in Weissport traffic stop

A Bucks County man has been charged after police found methamphetamine, cocaine, and over $7,000 in cash during a traffic stop.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Cpl. Shawn Noonan of the Pennsylvania State Police, Lehighton barracks in the case against Richard Castor Jr.:

At 4:30 p.m. Oct. 8, Noonan was on patrol in Weissport when he saw a black motorcycle being operated on White Street.

The driver failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of White Street and Lime Street.

When Noonan attempted to pull him over, the driver, Castor Jr., 39, of Levittown, turned around before accelerating at a high rate of speed.

Noonan pursued the motorcycle for about a quarter-mile, before Castor lost control of his motorcycle at the intersection of White Street and Bridge Street.

Castor ran away, but was caught a short time later.

He had a bag of methamphetamines, cocaine, buprenorphine and phencyclidine, a .32 caliber pistol and $7,189.

The methamphetamine weighed about 18.8 grams, while the cocaine weighed about 6.8 grams.

Castor had a room key for the Country Inn and Suites by Radisson on Interchange Road.

The key was then taken to that location and was found to be an actively occupied hotel room.

A search warrant was obtained and executed on this room and an additional half-pound of methamphetamine, along with six cigarettes that were dipped in PCP, were located.

Identical plastic bags used to store the drugs and an inhaler similar to the inhaler used by Castor were found in the room.

Castor told police that he had all of the money on him because he won at the casino, and further said that he was in Weissport visiting his sister.

A PennDOT records check on his sister’s name with the same address as Castor indicates she is deceased.

Noonan requested that Castor submit to a blood test and he refused.

Police found that Castor’s driver’s license is suspended, and that the vehicle is not currently registered or insured.

A criminal history check indicates that Castor Jr. was convicted of an aggravated assault in 2006, which would disqualify him from being in possession of a firearm.

Castor Jr. faces charges of the controlled substance, drug, device and cosmetic act: prohibited acts, penalties; persons not to possess/use/manufacture, control, sell, transfer firearms; fleeing or attempting to elude police officer; driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance; registration and certificate of title required; classes of licenses; driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked; required financial responsibility; stop signs and yield signs; and careless driving.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $150,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a formal arraignment Dec. 3 at the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office in Jim Thorpe.
