Woman out on bail in theft charge

A Schuylkill County judge dissolved a bench warrant against a Tamaqua woman

Judge James Goodman released Terri L. Kates, 36, on $5,000 unsecured bail, and ordered her to live at 100 Pitt St., Tamaqua. Kates is awaiting a plea hearing.Kates was charged on April 28 by Tamaqua police with conspiracy/receiving stolen property in connection with an incident that happened on Feb. 9.According to reports, police said they were contacted at 8:17 a.m. Feb. 11 by a person who said someone had used his bank card without his permission. After checking bank records, it was determined that an unauthorized purchase was made at the Fegley Mini Mart on Center Street at 6:21 p.m. Feb. 9. The purchase was for $106.45.Surveillance footage from the store identified the people involved with the purchase. John Joseph Schlauch, 30, of 14 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, used the card to make the purchase, while Kates picked up the merchandise and took it out of the store.
