Beltzville announces summer programs
Beltzville's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has released a schedule of summer activities for the state park.
• Flag Day Veterans Paddle, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 14Meet at the Preacher's Camp Boat Launch and join the Get Out Doors Kayaking experience focused on veterans. State park educator Cynthia Kurket will lead an easy-paced 4-mile kayak trip on the Pohopoco Cove, exploring the aquatic vegetation and wildlife of the park. The evening begins with an informative lecture on the wonders and mysteries of space. Then, watch as a beautiful sunset transitions to a star-laced sky, and identify planets, star clusters and galaxies using special optics. Attendees are permitted to bring their own equipment. Enjoy a leisurely paddle, check out the lake, and bask in the peacefulness of nature. Amateur and experienced kayakers are welcome to take in this relaxing exploration of the cove. Be sure to wear clothing and shoes that can get wet. Single kayaks, paddles and personal flotation devices will be provided. Basic instruction and safety procedures will be reviewed before taking off. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited, and registration is required. You may bring your own equipment, but please be sure to register by phone beforehand at 610-377-0045.• Outdoor Explorers Day Camp, 9 a.m. to noon, July 11 and July 12Kids from ages seven to nine are welcome to take part in the X-"Stream" Bugs program. Participants will enjoy crafts, games, stories and guided walks focused on terrestrial and water insects. Activities will include a stream exploration and a bug hunt safari. Kids who complete the camp will receive a Bureau of State Parks DiscoverE! badge and certificate. Registration is required, and camp groups are limited to 15 participants.
