A Monroe County man is facing various drug counts after he attempted to purchase drugs unknowningly from police.
Pocono Mountain Regional police said on Jan. 20 detectives received a text message from an unknown person on a department issued cellphone. After several back and forth communications, officers realized that the person was looking to purchase heroin. The man was identified as Ronald J. Stoudt, 37, of 154 Owassa Drive, Pocono Lake.Stoudt said he recently moved back to the area from Carlisle and was getting sick and look to get "hook up" with heroin.Stoudt had no idea he was conversing with police.Police set up a buy with Stoudt, who wanted four bags of heroin, at the main gate at Arrowhead Lakes in Tobyhanna Township.Police responded to that location and waited. Stoudt arrived and continued to text detectives stating he was there waiting. Police then took him into custody. Stoudt was charged with criminal solicitation, criminal use of a communication device, both felonies, and criminal attempt to possess a controlled substance, and possessing an instrument of crime, both misdemeanors.He was arraigned before a district judge and taken to the county prison in Snydersville in lieu of bail.
