New England Fire Company No. 1 in Walker Township plans to upgrade its fleet.
Larry Bensinger, a trustee of the fire company, told the township's board of supervisors on Thursday that the fire company is buying a 1997 KME Renegade Pumper Rescue."We're asking the township for insurance," Bensinger said.Bensinger said the vehicle would be purchased from Company Two, a used firetruck dealer in Varnville, South Carolina. He said it will be a certified Class A pumper, and is a five-man cab with four air pack seats, 1,500-gallon-a-minute pump and a 1,200-gallon tank."We're working on financing it," he said, adding that the fire company is hoping to get a $20,000 loan on the pumper.Bensinger said the pumper will replace a 1982 Ford Louisville 8,000 Darley Pumper that has aged.It will join a 2003 Freightliner KME Tanker, 3,000-gallon-a-minute pump, as well as a 1992 F-350 brush truck, Bensinger said."We've been kicking around for a while. This one just caught our eye online," he said. "It will better be able to serve the community, and actually take some load off running the tankers because it's more reliable as a tanker pumper, and this will allow us to run just the pumper on certain calls that will actually reduce the wear and tear on our tanker."Bensinger said Company Two will deliver the pumper via trailer to the fire company, and said he expects the fire company to take delivery of it within the next two to three weeks. Also on Thursday, supervisors announced there are vacancies on both the township's planning commission and zoning hearing board.Any township resident who would like to serve on either board may submit their letter of interest to
