JT sweeps Palmerton in volleyball
Jim Thorpe swept Palmerton in volleyball action to highlight Monday’s scholastic sports action.
VOLLEYBALL
Palmerton-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe rolled to a 25-7, 25-12, 25-7 nonleague win over Palmerton.
Brandy Montemuro sparked the Olympians’ attack with nine assists, seven aces, seven kills, three blocks and three digs. Andi Hoherchak (13 assists); Kristin Pompa (six kills), Abigail McGinley (five digs) and Olivia Wolfe (five digs) also contributed to the Jim Thorpe victory.
BOYS SOCCER
Lehighton-North Schuylkill
Carter Strauss scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift Lehighton to a 2-1 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.
Chris Fisher added a goal for the Indians (4-9-1 overall, 3-7-1 league). Matt Sofranko and Tyler Rehrig were both credited with assists.
Indian goalie Kaleb May finished with two saves.
Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven
A pair of second-half goals propelled Tamaqua to a 2-1 Schuylkill League victory over Schuylkill Haven.
Tyler Steigerwalt and Mateo Gomez posted the Blue Raiders’ goals, while Ryne Fisher and David Vazquez both added assists.
Caden Goehring scored the Hurricanes’ goal in the first half.
Blue Raiders’ goalie Luke Verta recorded four saves, while his counterpart James Munster ended up with nine.
FIELD HOCKEY
Northern Lehigh-Palmerton
Palmerton cruised to a 4-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.
Ana Recker, Kira Hauser, Emily Baumgardt and Megan Serfass posted the Blue Bombers’ scores.
Northwestern-Catasauqua
Northwestern spread the wealth as four different players scored in a 4-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.
Brinley Rex, Greenleigh McGehee, Ali Lister and Charlotte Horn all scored for the Tigers, while Lauren Schellhamer assisted on three of the goals.
Northwest Area-Lehighton
Northwest Area defeated Lehighton, 2-0.
Shiloh Miller and Jessica Ozach recorded the Rangers’ goals.
Indians’ keeper Shelby Heater finished with seven saves.
GIRLS SOCCER
Northwestern-Palmerton
Northwestern posted a 3-0 Colonial League win over Palmerton on Saturday.
Kylie Zents, Sophia Motolese and Cameron Fitch all recorded scores for the Tigers, while Lexi Bleam was credited with an assist.
Northwestern goalie Maomi Glassberg made four saves.
Jim Thorpe-Lourdes
Lydia Wallace scored a hat trick and also added an assist to spark Jim Thorpe to an 8-2 victory over Lourdes Regional on Saturday.
Sarah Hartman, Nicole Carroll, Heidi Washel and Kelli Hogarty all added single scores for Jim Thorpe.
Kate Bos divided her playing time between the net and the field and contributed in both areas for the Olympians, making two saves while playing goalie and then picking up a goal and an assist on the offensive end of the field.
Olivia Rosenberger split time with Bos in front of the JT net and made 11 saves.
