Cancer patients in Carbon County can now get free transportation to receive oncology care at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest in Allentown.

Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute and LANTA, Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority, is providing free shuttle transportation from a patient’s home to the John and Dorothy Morgan Cancer Center at LVH–Cedar Crest for oncology treatments and related physician visits. A family member or friend may also accompany the patient on the shuttle at no charge.

The LANTA shuttle will make one roundtrip per day from patients’ homes to the Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute at LVH-Cedar Crest, 1240 S. Cedar Crest Blvd., Allentown. This service is offered five days a week, Monday through Friday. Oncology patients will be picked up in the morning at their home at a time mutually agreed upon with LANTA’s shared ride service. Departure time from Allentown to return to Carbon County is based on when a patient’s appointment ends and LANTA’s shared ride schedule. The latest departure is 3:30 p.m.

“I am pleased Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute and LANTA were able to partner to improve the convenience for those Carbon County residents receiving cancer care and will benefit even more due to our membership in the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance,” said Terrence Purcell, LVHN’s Vice President for Market Development and President, Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Carbon. “When our new LVH–Carbon hospital opens in Mahoning Township, infusion services will be available locally for the residents of Carbon County and the surrounding areas we serve.”
