It’s a chance for local community members to snatch up a wide assortment of donated clothing, shoes and other accessories at no cost whatsoever.

That’s what visitors can expect when The Gathering Place Mission in Weissport holds The Shepherd’s Closet grand giveaway fall winter opening at 305 White St.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and also from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 21. Visitors must wear a mask. Donations are being accepted.

Some items will be limited on opening day to make sure everyone gets something they need, according to Anita Wisler, overseer of The Shepherd’s Closet.

“It’s a giveaway for all fall and winter clothing for men, women, children, toddlers and infants,” Wisler said. “We have all sizes.”

Wisler noted there is also hunting gear for men. Accessories include shoes, boots, purses, scarfs and gloves, she said.

There will also be a miscellaneous table with items, said Wisler, who added that special items such as a love seat, bathroom accessories and more will also be available.

“My main purpose was knowing that many folks are laid off from the pandemic, so it’s to help people in need,” she said. “My mission is to create a loving and sharing and caring type atmosphere in Weissport and local communities; that’s what I feel I’m here for, to help my community.”

Wisler said special classes are being formed at The Gathering Place Mission to aid people who have addictions, anger management issues, and basic life skill issues.

She said there will be healthy cooking classes, a grief class, and also classes for people who need to complete their GED classes, as well as for job and housing necessities, with dates and times to be determined.

Wisler said a Ladies Bible Study is held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, and Men’s Bible Study at 6 p.m. Fridays.

The event continues the second Saturday and third Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
